A 29-year-old man is recovering from a wound to his groin after being shot on 57th Street near Poplar in West Philadelphia Friday night.

Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division said the gunfire stemmed from a 12-year-old boy throwing a rock at a 6-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle.

After the 6-year-old boy was hit with the rock, he went home and told his family what happened.

They sent a group of about eight men to the 12-year-old boy's house to confront him and his family, Walker said.

The father of the 12-year-old boy tried reasoning with the men and the discussion eventually dissolved into an argument, Walker said.

Someone in the group pulled out a .380 caliber handgun and fired three shots toward the 12-year-old boy's house.

The boy's 29-year-old cousin, who was standing on the porch, was wounded once in his groin and was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was listed in stable condition as of 12:10 a.m.

The suspect was described as a dark skinned black man in his late teens, who is about 5'11 and weighs about 150 pounds. The man was wearing a black North Face hoodie and a black hat, Walker said.

No arrests were made.
