Police: Man, 25, shot to death in Fairhill

Police are investigating an afternoon shooting that left a man dead in North Philadelphia's Fairhill neighborhood.

The victim, a 25-year-old man whom police have not yet identified, was on 4th Street near Indiana Avenue when, police say, someone shot him several times around 2:45 p.m. He was pronounced dead on the sidewalk.

Neighbors peered out second-floor windows and stood outside yellow police tape cordoning off the narrow, trash-strewn block and watched through the snow as police investigated the murder.

Several neighbors at the scene said they didn't know who the victim was, but that they'd heard the gunshots and come outside.

"This is every day," one woman at the scene said, shaking her head.

Police have not made any arrests in the homicide, and it remains under investigation. The man is the 46th person murdered in Philadelphia so far in 2013, compared with 81 people killed as of this date last year and 79 in 2011.
