Police: Four wounded in three separate stabbings in Kensington

This post has been updated.

Police were investigating three separate stabbings in the city’s Kensington section overnight Saturday into Sunday that left three men and a teenager wounded.

Two men were wounded, one critically, when an unknown man they’d been arguing with early Sunday morning in the city’s Kensington section pulled a knife and stabbed them, police said.

Cops said the two victims were together on Hagert Street near Cedar around 1:20 a.m. when they were approached by a man they did not know. The three got into a verbal altercation and the man pulled a knife and stabbed both men, ages 31 and 26, in the chest. The older victim was taken to Episcopal hospital, where he was treated and released, police said, and the younger man was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition Sunday afternoon.

Police said the only description available of the attacker in that incident was that he was white and wore a black T-shirt.

A little more than an hour earlier, a few blocks away, police said a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in the shoulder after he was approached by an unknown man about a thrown object at Tulip Street and Susquehanna Avenue. In that incident, which preliminarily did not appear to be connected to the later stabbing, a verbal argument also escalated into a stabbing, cops said. The wounded teen was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition Sunday afternoon. Police did not have a detailed description of the offender.

Around 1 a.m., police were also investigating a third stabbing in Kensington that left a 28-year-old man in critical condition. In that incident, cops said the victim was outside at D Street and Indiana Avenue when he was stabbed twice in the chest, once in the left shoulder and once in the left arm by an unknown offender. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police were unsure what motivated that stabbing and did not have any suspects later Sunday.

Sickening to see these racist comments. Race has absolutely nothing to do with it, and to assume that a particular group is responsible for increased violence is totally beyond the pale. Have you ever asked yourself the cause? Centuries of oppression (and don't you dare suggest that slavery has nothing to do with it: the legacy of slavery is still with us), and continued racism from people like the commenters. Just remember, for every crime that happens in this city, there are two victims: the person who was physically injured, and -- no less -- the person who was driven by centuries of oppression to commit a desperate act that in essence is nothing more than a cry for help -- a cry to be freed from centuries of racist oppression.

Aperson19103 please put your 50yr old race card away, this isn't 1960. No one race makes anyone else do anything they don't want to do in this city.unless of course they are disturbed with mental illness,Those people get a pass. Most of our crime in this city is black on black and stabbings are very personal crimes. When you stab someone, you meant to cause serious bodily injury on the other person.
