Police: Boy, 16, critical after shooting in East Mount Airy

A 16-year-old boy remained in extremely critical condition Tuesday after police say he was shot in the chest late Monday night in East Mount Airy.

The teen was outside on Montana Street near Ross when someone opened fire on him at 10:38 p.m., hitting him at least once, a police spokeswoman said. He was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center in serious condition, and was still clinging to life Tuesday.

Police said they haven't made any arrests in the shooting, which happened about six blocks from where a 15-year-old boy was critically wounded in a shooting Sunday afternoon. Police said another 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged in that shooting, which was sparked by a fight among teens.

Monday's shooting appeared to have been motivated by drugs and not connected to the shooting on Sunday, according to investigators.
