Police on Tuesday were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 44-year-old man who was found dead inside a house in South Philadelphia.

Cops were called to Newkirk Street off of Passyunk Avenue around 11 a.m. When they arrived, they found the man in a second-floor bedroom suffering what they said appeared to be a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medics at 11:18 a.m.

It was unclear how long the man had been dead when he was found. No weapon was recovered at the scene, and police continued to investigate the man’s death later Tuesday.
