Philly police officer arrested after dispute with estranged wife

An 11-year police veteran was arrested Tuesday on charges of simple assault and reckless endangerment.

The charges James Graber, Jr. faces stem from a dispute he had in a pub with his estranged wife on Feb. 19 while he was off duty.

Graber, 36, was escorted by security from the pub on Frankford Avenue near Meridian after a verbal dispute with the woman, police said in a release.

He returned later and punched his wife in the face, police said.

The Internal Affairs Bureau and the District Attorney’s office investigated the case, and police said Graber, who was assigned to the Bomb Disposal Unit, has been suspended for 30 days with commissioner Charles H. Ramsey looking to dismiss him.
