Philly cop charged with DUI
Chanta Herder, a veteran Philadelphia police sergeant, was arrested early Monday and charged with driving under the influence.
Herder, 42, struck a vehicle while she was off duty on Verree Road near Borbeck Avenue shortly after 2 a.m., police said Tuesday. She was taken to the Police Detention Unit and given a breathalyzer test, which allegedly showed that her blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, police said.
Herder, a 14-year veteran, works in West Philly's 19th District. Police said she's been put on desk duty, pending the outcome of an investigation.

she may be fired, if, because of the DUI, she gets her driving privleges suspended, which to the best of my knowledge, is a job requirement. It would be the state of PA and not the city that suspends her license. This is a quick way to go about it, not that she committed a DUI offense, but she no longer has the proper qualifications to perform the job, i.e. a valid drivers license. TheGuyfromPhilly
If it's a first-time offense - I agree she should not be fired, but if her license is suspended (and it should be) of what value is a patrol sergeant that cannot drive? The district offices are already packed two-to-a-desk with the limp, lame, and lazy. JamesIgnatius
Fire her, look at that smug look on her face cmoney
6 mo suspension at most for first time dui dmac6419
If we had a job as stressful as theirs we would probably drink too. LOL! pauljack
Verree Road at Borbeck is pretty wide with a 25 mph limit. If she couldn't handle that, she must've been sloshed. mportik
Much like the Catholic church the PPD was just transfer this cop to another district instead of holding them accountable. Taxpaying Voter
really dudes???? She is a police office, breaking the law should be a firing offence. But wait, the union is closing in, and, it will be a slp on the hand and return to work. No wonder our young people don't respect the police. davedude
It's been a bad month for the Brotha's and Sista's in blue. I guess ya'll are being held to some standards the whites in blue are held to. All I can say is, it's about time. Rowdy Yates
Nothing will happen to her, this incident is pretty much black and white. Black skin and a white shirt, 2 pluses that she gets off scott free. TomM
FIRED? Ha! That's a good one. You clearly don't understand how PPD works. Ya can't get fired for shooting people! She will either experience no punishment or at worst "vacation duty." Then she will retire at 55 years of age and collect $6,000 per MONTH for LIFE on the taxpayer. Free healthcare too until age 67, with a really nice policy that costs the taxpayer $20,000 per year. warrentheape
Get her the help she needs. That's the least we owe her. Bilfar
maybe she could join the police athletic league and help them extort money while putting kids in harms way with asbestos or she could be moved to teaching driving at the academy or she could go to s.v.u. along with officer washington or....ah forget it Frankfaraway
This comment has been deleted. PhiladelphiaGold- You spew racist nonsense then quote statistics from a report that's 8 years old as if gospel. You sound like one of the ignorant, abusive, overweight and lazy cops that permeate the PPD which is a problem for all races especially those of us depending on them to actually serve and protect.
