A 23-year-old man is dead and a 26-year-old man is clinging to life after a double shooting Friday night in East Mount Airy.

Shots rang out on Sharpnack Street between Chew Avenue and Musgrave Street about 8:34 p.m. and the unidentified 23-year-old victim was wounded in his head, chest, back and three times in his leg. The older victim was wounded in his chest and leg, police said.

Medics took both men to the Albert Einstein Medical Center, where the younger of the two victims was pronounced dead at 8:58 p.m. The surviving victim was listed in extremely critical condition as of 9 p.m.

The suspects fled in a green Mercury mini-van, which was stopped on Rosemary Lane near Emlen Street in West Mount Airy, police said.

A suspect was taken into custody and police were still searching for two others Friday night. Cops said the two other men were last seen heading toward the train tracks near Carpenter Lane and Quincy Street.

Police were unsure of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

I am starting to think that nothing can be done to stop people who want to die from making it happen. Here's some advice, go to school and learn how to sling drugs the legal way. Out of Walgreens and CVS with a white coat on.

It never fails that somebody ends up blaming all black people for the actions of some.

I am willing to be subjected to Stop and Frisks if it puts a dent in this insanity!
Philly is turning into the Wil Wild West, where everybody is carrying.

Forgot to add that Stop and Frisk must be paired with MANDATORY sentencing for illegal gun possession. A Task Force of well amed, well protected officers, WALKING our streets. Sounds like Marshall Law? Yup, thats exactly what is needed. Its too late to try to take back our streets with bullhorns, songs and candles. These crack babies are totaaly amoral, and will only respect force.

Oh yeah! But you know what would happen?! The hug-a-thuggers would complain that Stop and Frisk violates the rights of the lawless hoodlums :D! You cant win! Operation Safe Streets-was the last time this (inner) city was safe :D! The crack dealers at 52nd and Market? I'll always remember looking down at that corner from the El during Operation Safe Streets, and that corner was EMPTY! And the hug-a-thuggers started CRYIN'! BOOHOO, "Rhahim" cant go on the prowl for victims at night without being harrassed by cops! Now look at it...back to bullets flying every night, and FEAR.

This is mostly drug related....although other insanity from thug morons occurs, but most is based on drugs. Make drug use legal..and sold by the gvt from kiosks for less than $1.00 Heroin, coke, crack, grass, morphine, pills, etc. This would undercut and bypass the entire drug community...from Colombia, Mexico...all the way to the vermin who sells this on corners. The US can contract with farmers in Peru....and have stuff processed up here. Same with grass. Have it grown on Gvt. farms...and packaged. Imagine how devestated all the drug lords would be when the fortune is cut off. And while selling to users, at least the gvt. can hand out info. to try to get them to Mexico alone50,000 murdered due to the trade. In Phila...we will see 360 murders this year.....and most likely 90% will be B on B.....and half to three quarters based on drug wars/debts.

Urban crime has always been a problem in congested areas since before Jack the Ripper.

Funny though that by the measure of Popular culture such as Bob Dylan, drugs became "hip" just in time for July 2, 1964.

Yes let's slash all resources for the least of us but this I will tell you as you slash away at what you perceive to be the least of us: When the trees go, we go.

Stop-and-frisk is on permanent hold from a court order demanded by the NAACP. Apparently, our left-leaning friends not only want laws that will take guns away from law-abiding citizens, but also want criminals to carry their illegal guns free from police interference.

They will die with "street cred", which is more important than anything in their lives.
