Oil spill snarls traffic in N.W. Philly

Firefighters responded to an oil spill on Ridge Avenue near Manayunk in Wissahickon around 5:30 Friday afternoon, and traffic was crawling through the area two hours later, police said.

It was unclear how much fuel spilled onto the road, fire officials said, but there were no reported injuries.

Police in the 5th District said officers were still on the scene as of 7:30 p.m., and it was unclear what caused the oil spill.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area if possible, or expect delays.
