Two police officers and a civilian are being treated for minor injuries at area hospitals after police say they were injured in a car accident involving a police cruiser and another car in the city's Hunting Park section Wednesday afternoon.

Around 2:30 p.m., the officers were on their way to respond to the report of a burglary on Marshall Street near Hunting Park Avenue when they spotted a man matching the description of the burglar that had been broadcast over police radio riding a bicycle on 5th Street near Hunting Park Avenue, police spokeswoman Officer Jillian Russell said.

While officers attempted to stop the man on the bicycle, the cop driving somehow lost control of the cruiser and crashed into the wall of a house on the block, Russell said. Russell said that another car was also involved in the accident and struck the man on the bicycle, causing minor injuries.

Both officers were taken to Temple University Hospital, where they were expected to be treated and released. The injured civilian was taken to Episcopal Hospital with minor injuries, Russell said.
