North Philly shooting leaves four men hospitalized

POSTED: Friday, September 30, 2011, 8:38 PM

A hail of gunfire in North Philadelphia left four men recovering from their wounds at Temple University Hospital Friday night.

At 7:05 p.m., an unidentified man opened fire on the group of men on Dauphin Street near 17th. Chief Inspector Scott Small said a 30-year-old man was shot in his chest and was hospitalized in critical condition.

A 27-year-old man was shot in his right thigh and was listed in stable condition. A 22-year-old man was shot in the right side of his buttocks and was listed in stable condition as well.

And a 21-year-old man was shot in his right calf and was also listed in stable condition, Small said.

Four witnesses were taken to speak with officials in the Central Detective Division after the shooting, and Small said police were gathering information on the description of the suspect.

No arrests were made and police did not have a motive as of 8:30 p.m.

DonQ said it best. If it was cops and hoodlums involved their would have been lots of videos and pictures of what was going on. However, because there are no cops involved, therefore there is no one to sue, no pictures were taken. As with everything else, it comes down to money and who can we sue.

It is not up to the white man to go into these neighborhoods and volunteer, as we will not make it out alive. It is up to the black "LEADERS" - where are they? Better question, WHO are they? Al and Jesse are not leaders, they just incite hatred and racial separation. Once a year. MLK is exalted, but not one black leader is recommedning cooperation and understanding. If they do, like Bill Cosby, they are called Uncle toms. It is up to the black leaders, the black pastors and black PARENTS to get involved and be good role models. Teach your girls to keep their knees together and the boys to pull up their pants. Where are the 10,000 men??? Out bein sperm donors for 10,000 more babies with no daddies???

You're wasting your time suggesting that it takes a husband and wife to properly raise a child in Philly.

How about real incarceration?...How about "stop and frisk" so that police can be PROACTIVE fighting crime, getting this slew of illegal guns off the streets? How about communicating with police when these heinous acts go down? How about getting dangerous, violent kids out of regular schools so the good ones can learn?...How about closing down the drug corridors on that infest the urban streets that eventually lead to violent crime?...Until then, I'll be as sarcastic as I please to be...and none of these commenters have ever hurt a fly, so chill tough guy.

So many people criticize these people in these neighborhoods, and the crime that goes one in them. But I can guess none of you are volunteers at the community centers, nor are you helping to change the influence of these children who grow to be these adults. Before you talk make sure you lend a hand to try to change. Nothing will change until we all come together and get involved. It takes a village to raise a child, and people with common sense to influence them. Just saying.

You're asking for heroes. The community doesn't need heroes. The community needs regular people who will ID the criminals for the police to arrest. I was a community volunteer for more than 15 years. In that time, the drug gangs lured away more kids from our program than the ones we got to settle down to productive lives. I quit when one of my "kids" got his "gang cred" by committing murder. I knew I could be next.

Take another hit, hold it in for a long tome, and maybe your next comment will be as stupid as your first one. If everyone takes care of their own, then that conversation can take place.

Sure guys. Crack jokes. Laugh. While you do so, four neighbors from my block are in the hospital tonight. I guess it's funnier if you didn't have to dive to your living room floor and hope the bullets weren't going to come through your window.

If you had taken a picture of the shooter with your cel phone camera before ducking, there would be something for the cops to use. If it had been a cop beating up a neighbor, there would have been a dozen pictures and videos. That's a big part of the problem. Either the attitude changes, or people will go on dying.
