Monday recap: Six killed over holiday weekend

The Thanksgiving weekend was a violent one in the city, with six killed in six separate incidents, according to police.

In the most recent slaying, the city's 230th this year, according to police sources, officers were directed to a shooting at the corner of Palethorpe and Somerset streets in the Fairhill section of  North Philadelphia early Monday by passers-by.

On-scene, the officers found two shooting victims lying on the intersection's southwest corner. The first victim, a 33-year-old man, had been shot twice in the chest and was taken to Temple University hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:29 a.m. The second victim, a 34-year-old male, was shot twice in his right leg. He was also transported to Temple Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Another shooting occurred late Sunday, when officers responding to a call of a shooting at 900 East Russell Street in Kensington found Luis Manuel Feliciano, 19, face down on the side of the road with a gunshot wound to the head. Feliciano was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:22 p.m.

Two other victims at the scene were transported to Temple Hospital: an 18-year-old man shot in both thighs and a 30-year-old woman shot in her right foot.

No arrests or motives were available yesterday, and an investigation is ongoing.

In another incident Sunday about 12:15 a.m., officers called to a house at Princeton Avenue near 21st in the Castor section of Northeast Philadelphia found the body of 36-year-old Arthur Figueiredo wrapped in a sheet and packing materials in the home's basement. Medics at the scene said blunt-force trauma was the cause of death, and Figueiredo's brother, Paulo, was arrested and charged with murder in the slaying, according to police.

Saturday was also violent, with three dead in three separate incidents.

In the earliest, officers responding to a radio call of a "person shot on the highway" at Walton Avenue near 61st in West Philadelphia discovered Marquis Mebane, 19, shot once in the chest and head. He was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 12:57 a.m. No information on the suspect is available, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Later that morning, police found Tyree Lloyd 19, suffering from a stab wound at Girard Avenue near 40th in West Philadelphia. Lloyd was transported to Penn, where he was pronounced dead at 2:36 a.m. Henry Blackson, 28, was arrested and charged in Lloyd's murder.

Finally, about 4:48 p.m. Saturday, a report of a person with a gun led officers to a house at Lebanon Avenue near 58th in Overbrook. On-scene, officers found Christian Massey, 21, in the home's driveway, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Massey told the officers that he was shot during an attempted mugging by an unknown male. He was transported to Penn, where he was pronounced dead at 5:36 p.m.

There has been no arrest.
