Marijuana growing operation uncovered in Southwest Philadelphia
A PGW crew was checking for a gas leak at a house in Southwest Philadelphia Monday morning when they stumbled across a marijuana growing operation, police said.
The home, on Reedland Street near 58th, was unoccupied when the workers arrived.
The crew called the cops around 10 a.m., and police said the operation took up the second floor of the home as well as the basement.
Fifty marijuana plants were found inside the house, along with specialized lighting, a generator and a filtration system.
It was unclear Monday night whether police contacted the owner of the house, or if any suspects were taken into custody.
- Wow, you are dense. Makes me wonder if not smoking herb makes people dumber!

meowmix99 - right on!
The busting of the farmer will do more harm to them than smoking the stuff ever will or has.

Nothing wrong with a little bud. WantToKnow
I was hoping for a longer story, I feel all doped up after looking at the banner for "sexy singles". What non sense.

Common sense to legalize it just can't prevail, sad. Rock1
mayfair you are clueless, crack and heroin is what destroys neighborhoods, not weed. i'm not even going to get into details. deatheater
mayfair, if you think "Weed" destroyed your neighborhood, you need to look deeper. If you think L.A.'s problems come from weed, you have no concept of what that state is like. MichaelZoe
Legalize marijuana? You’ve got to be kidding me. I guess it is ok to be high at work. Imagine yourself under the knife in the hospital and your surgeon was smoking pot 6 hours prior to your surgery. How about school teachers, construction workers, bus drivers, fireman and cops? I cannot wait for someone to bring Amsterdam into conversation. But look… they are doing fine in Amsterdam. Netherlands can not be compared to US, what's good for them may not be good for us. Nitroglycerin- this has to be a joke right? you cannot be serious . alcohol is legal, do you see a lot of drunken surgeons stumbling around the OR on a daily basis? Ryan
- Since when does legalization go hand in hand with everyone smoking weed? Alcohol is legal and teachers, construction workers, bus drivers, fireman and cops aren't going out and getting hammered prior to, or at work. I bet you if your doctor likes to smoke weed he/she is already smoking. If weed was legalized it wouldn't mean you can operate a vehicle or backhoe, teach a class, or arrest someone for a crime.
hpesojc - So you are okay with surgeons drunk on alcohol? Basically, if one ifs responsible enough to be a surgeon, then he/she ought to be sober- including not using legal alcohol- and have had a good night's sleep, and if the surgeon isn't doing that, marijuana prohibition will have little difference.
Also, could you please bother to explain why Amsterdam is a bad example? I guess you can't have anybody comparing us to Amsterdam because then it will be overwhelmingly obvious that our marijuana policy is a complete and total failure, just as alcohol prohibition was in this country. Blanketman - just another example of gov't regulation hurting small business owners. Ryan
58th & Reedland? Isn't that where "Dr Feelgood" had his offic...er...crack house? Weed is the teast of the problems there. DonQ
But Ryan my buddy my pal.. I did not say alcohol is good. Two wrongs do not make it right. Or does it? As a society we already have alcohol, we cannot get rid of it. Not like we hadn't tried during prohibition. So now you want marijuana too? Let me guess, you will Google a bunch of articles that compares alcohol vs marijuana. How marijuana ‘not as evil’ if we compare it to alcohol. Still, does it make it right? Nitroglycerin
