Man wanted in W. Philadelphia robbery, assault

Police are searching for a man who was caught on surveillance camera moments before he assaulted and robbed a 66-year-old woman in West Philadelphia.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at the Lucky 7 grocery store on 57th Street near Arch on Aug. 3.

While the victim was using an ATM, a surveillance system recorded the suspect watching her, then following her out of the building. The man trailed the victim to Cherry Street near 57th, police said.

He grabbed the woman, punched her and demanded her money, police said. He snatched her purse and fled the scene on foot.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black man in his early to mid-30s. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs between 190 and 200 pounds. He was wearing a dark hooded sweater, a black T-shirt, brown cargo shorts and black sneakers.
