Man struck, killed on Roosevelt Boulevard

A man was struck and killed by an apparent hit-and-run driver after tossing his 5-year-old son out of the way on Roosevelt Boulevard at Loney Street Wednesday night in Northeast Philadelphia, police said.

The man was hit around 11 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the Boulevard. His son was taken to Children's Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
An off-duty police officer was driving behind the hit-and-run driver, police said, and the car was stopped a few blocks away at Borbeck Avenue.

Police remain on the scene investigating early Thursday morning.
