Man shot near South Street

POSTED: Tuesday, June 12, 2012, 12:23 AM
A man was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot on Gaskill Street near 4th in Society Hill Monday night, police said.
The man was shot twice in his back just after 11p.m. and was taken to Jefferson University Hospital where he was undergoing surgery around midnight. Police were unsure of the victim's age.
The shooter's motive was unclear, but cops said the incident may have been a robbery or drug related.
Police found the victim's hat, an undisclosed amount of cash and blunt wrappers next to an overturned bicycle on the corner.
Police remained on the scene early Tuesday morning searching for evidence and interviewing neighbors and employees at nearby businesses over the sound of laughter music piping from nearby South Street.
Police chastised several neighbors for stepping over the yellow crime scene tape blocking 4th Street - and argued with a man who demanded that an officer pass him his bicycle, which was one of four that were chained to poles within the crime scene.

Waiting for the NRA to let me know how the thug or drug buyer got the gun? Legally registered? Doubt it. Let me know where it came from.

Should the Philly citizens apply for hazardous duty pay?? Lets keep a count and if philly murders top the killings in Afganastan, the winner get a night out on south Street. OOPS wrong street, you could get hurt there.

Lemme guess - the victim was wearing skinny jeans and a plaid shirt, and the shooter was a Kensington thug. This city is just a parody of itself.

The kid was laying right outside the Philadelphia Java Company, on the corner of 4th and Gaskill. The gunshots sounded like sticks of dynamite exploding. I was surprised how loud they were. Cops we're rude and totally unprofessional as they treated all the local residents as if they were suspects.

South Street has been a dump since the hippies moved out...what was that like the late 1970s? I avoid it always; and besides it's not even fun anymore.

The safety and well-being of the city's population happen to be their primary responsibility.

Robo Cop wouldnt make a difference. The supply of immoral parasitic thugs exceeds any hope of stopping it. We have to work on that issue and not blame institutions, as always, for not stopping it. We know that isnt the case.

A description of a murderer would be beneficial to the community, however, our Inquirer won't report that as I am afraid they could be seen as racist. If a murderer was running loose on the Main Line would they not report a description? Well, maybe if he/she was white. This NON reporting could get others murdered as well. Shouldn't the community know who to report to the police?
I love the Tea Party. They are helping states all over America. You don't see Tea Partiers running around shooting people even though they believe in the 2d Amendment! It's the lefties who do harm most times!

Sylvester Johnson is an over-paid epic failure. Put cameras everywhere like in Chicago! It may not stop crime, but it's pretty hard not to get caught.

This is hilarious. Not only has Johnson been gone for years but Chicago has even more crime than Philadelphia. Fifty (50) people were shot in just the last week in Chi-town. If that's what cameras do for a city ...let's not

The rule of law has broken down in Kiladelphia, the Mayor and Police chief are failures at their jobs, step down.
