Man shot in Kensington barber shop, hospitalized

This post has been updated

Police are investigating a shooting that took place inside of a barber shop on Westmoreland Street near E Street in Kensington Tuesday afternoon.

Around 5:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot once in the lower right side of his back, said Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman.

Cops took the victim to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition as of 7 p.m.

Police in the East Detective Division were still on the scene as of 7:15 p.m. interviewing witnesses to determine what led to the shooting.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said the victim was not being cooperative with police.

"The victim isn't telling us what happened, who shot him or why," he said.

The shots were fired from inside the shop, police said.

Blood, bullet holes and ballistic evidence was found inside the shop when cops arrived.

The barber shop was equipped with a surveillance camera, Small said.

Police were working to get footage of the shooting while the victim was hospitalized. Two witnesses were also taken from the scene to speak with police in the East Detective Division.

No arrests were made, and a description of the suspect was not immediately available.
