Cops chased a man into a SEPTA station and arrested him after he shot a 49-year-old Logan man during a robbery Friday afternoon on Girard Avenue near Watts Street in North Philly.

The alleged thief, a 35-year-old North Philadelphia man, stole a pair of shoes from the victim, and shot him in the lower right side of his abdomen just after 5 p.m., police said.

Police were unsure Friday night whether any cash was taken from the victim.

After the suspect shot the victim, an officer from the 22nd police district who was near the scene chased the man into the SEPTA Broad Street Line station on Girard Avenue and arrested him there.

Police found a handgun inside a trash can on the corner of Broad Street and Girard Avenue outside the entrance to the train station, and recovered the pair of shoes the suspect stole from the man.

Two surveillance cameras recorded the suspect running from the scene, and he was positively identified by the victim and two witnesses, police said.

The victim was listed in critical but stable condition at Hahnemann University Hospital Friday night.

The suspect has nine prior arrests on his record, police said.

He was arrested twice for burglary, twice for domestic assault, for escaping police, for aggravated assault by handgun, motor vehicle theft, weapons violations, and for violating a restraining order, police said.

The man was awaiting arraignment early Saturday morning.
