Police were investigating a fatal shooting in Society Hill and a shooting in Center City that left a man wounded Sunday morning.

A 32-year-old man was shot and killed in Society Hill in the early morning hours, police said.

Cops responded to 4th Street near Pine around 3:30 a.m. and found the man lying on the ground, unresponsive, suffering a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics rushed him to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:31 a.m., police said.

Police were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting and said they did not yet have a motive or any suspects Sunday afternoon.

In an unrelated incident a little more than an hour before, officers who'd just left Police Headquarters at 8th and Race streets and were headed south on 8th saw a man wildly firing a gun into the air on Arch Street between 7th and 8th, cops said. The officers attempted to apprehend the man, but he fled on foot and was lost in a crowd coming out of a night club on the block.

Fifteen minutes after that, police said, cops were called to Appletree Street near 7th, just north of Arch Street, for a person with a gun. Those officers saw a blue Dodge SUV fleeing a lot at 7th and Arch and stopped the vehicle. Inside the SUV, police said, the officers found a 26-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to the right hand. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital and listed in stable condition. A second victim, a 22-year-old man, suffered lacerations from broken glass from a shattered window of the SUV, police said.

Upon further investigation, cops said, it was determined that the two injured men and three others had left the nightclub on Arch Street near 7th just after 2 a.m. and gotten into the SUV when two men they did not know approached the SUV and started punching the man who was eventually shot in the face. As the SUV sped away, the victims and witnesses heard two gunshots, police said, and bullets shattered the back window of the SUV, one hitting the man in the hand.

No arrests were made in that incident, police said.
