Man robbed at gunpoint after giving suspect a cigarette

Police are hoping surveillance footage and help from the public leads them to making an arrest in an armed robbery in East Mount Airy on Nov. 13.

Around 11 p.m., a 38-year-old man was inside a 7-Eleven on 77th Avenue near Ogontz when another man asked him for a cigarette, police said.

The victim gave the man a cigarette and left the store.

The man followed the victim home, pulled a handgun out on him and demanded money, police said. The suspect took the victim’s cell phone and cigarettes then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a black man who is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds.

He was wearing a black jacket, a black hooded sweater, black pants and a white baseball cap. Police said the man was also carrying a gray sweatshirt.

Tipsters are asked to call (215) 686-TIPS (8477).
