Man packs gun in carry-on, arrested
A 42-year-old Chester County man was arrested at the Philadelphia International Airport Thursday night after a TSA screener found a loaded, .25 caliber handgun tucked inside his carry-on luggage, police said.
The man was preparing to depart from Philadelphia around 7 p.m. when a TSA agent noticed the gun as his bag was being scanned. The agent called police, and the man was arrested without incident, said Lt. John Walker, of the Southwest Detective Division.
The unidentified man was being held at the Southwest Detective Division, headquartered at 55th Street near Pine, Thursday night, Walker said.
It was unclear whether the man knew that the gun was inside of his bag, Walker said. He’ll likely be charged with reckless endangerment and possession of an instrument of crime, Walker said, adding that the man has a valid permit to carry a firearm.
Joseph Picklo, 29, of Dallas, Pa., was arrested Thursday morning for trying to board a plane to San Francisco with firecrackers - among other questionable items - that were packed in his carry-on bag.
Whoops! Sorry about that. Won't happen again, I promise. Moe_Syzlak
Sounds like a stupid, but honest mistake in not realizing the gun was in the bag. I see no intent to employ the gun in a criminal manner if he forgot it was there, so possessing instruments of crime does not pass the smell test. kingnutter- Agreed. Which means that the TSA agents, though they did their job correctly, did not avert a terror attack, or trouble of any kind.
Of all the security changes made since 9/11, the only one that made any difference was putting locks on cockpit doors. Everything else is just expensive, inconvenient security theater. - that is an awful lot of assumptions you are making in regards to passenger safety. You have no idea what this guys intentions were. Who in their right mind forgets where they put a loaded gun. And if that is the case, he needs to be taught a lesson for his stupidity. Drewmcc

Not knowing the whereabouts of your loaded firearm is called negligence. b1ll
Dumb What Super Bowl?!!
Well, a gun is not the kind of item one is supposed to lose or misplace. It is not like he placed a Swiss army knife or a toe nail clipper in his bag. WantToKnow
Did they bash his head in? That's how they instill fear in the people witnessing the event. That's normal operation procedure now that we live in an authoritarian police state. Did they also arrest the people standing next to him? They might have exhibited unacceptable facial expressions (facecrime). trebordet
Comment removed.- What is it with those in the hippie-revolutionary movement who grossly overexaggerate the state of our country, for effect, and the backward name spelling? Lol. TED ROBERT. Wow, you really dug deep in your 007 bag for that brilliant disinformation technique. The Government will NEVER send storm troopers to assassinate you, because they can't even SEE you! Way to go. While I agree that the Gov't is made up of mostly chimps, even a chimp can "decode" your crafty little "scramble". just pick anj alias already.

I'm betting they will let him go, as they have don't with almost 100% caught..actually can't recall one that they prosecuted. Why I have no clue..guess it will take a major incident on a plane before they get serious. Billions spent on security and they do absolutely nothing with it. They seem to think "Oh, I forgot" is get out of jail card. You don't forget loaded handguns..no way...same for the idiot with the supposed "fireworks." thepaguy
when i travel i know if i have a paperclip in my bag. come on man.....u forgot about your handgun? that's not even a D'oh! mwright252

National news said he had "fireworks", not a gun. What's the real scoop? dogman5
LOL @ "Was it the pilot?" and "Maybe wife was trying to get rid of him." Yeah, you never know, right? WantToKnow
As my mother used to say "Stupid is as stupid does." BigLadd
Waaaaait a second. He had a permit. According to Lefty and the others on this board, then he is a responsible defender of our right to carry a firearm??! Wrong. Alas, he "forgot" to "NOT" pack it before he went on an airplane? Sounds a MORON and a dangeous one at that. You can't bring a gun on a plane, let alone a loaded gun. Absolutely no defense here. And no assumptions. Who knows what he would have done with that thing. And if it was a "mistake", then he is a total moron who doesn't deserve a permit to carry. It was LOADED. MichaelZoe
thewire: Hey, I heard the NRA is having a monthly meeting. I really think you should attend and let loose your "Pinky and The Brain" rant...be sure to wear a brightly colored vest with circle patterns, k? MichaelZoe
If the airlines would just ask "did you pack your bags yourself?", "did anybody ask you to carry anything on board with you" and "Do you have an ex wife or girlfriend who is pissed off at you?" he would probably would double check before going through security. zombieboy_215
Hurry, someone please send Hook on Phonics to "thewire" commentor. Lesson 1, "The Correct Use of To, Too, & Two" followed by other Hymonymns (words that sound the same but are spelled differently) will do him quite a bit of good. It may even get him reading and RIGHTING (sarcasm just for you) at a 3rd grade level. I mean its one thing to speak ebonics with your boys but to write ebonics, is an absolute travesty. You are the epitome of ignorance, thewire. My 7 year old knows the difference between plain & plane. Ooh yes, but the SAT test is discriminatory towards AA's...as are all the Labor Union tests, the police & fire tests, etc. tl8125

@ post - If that is a true story, which I have my doubts, maybe your friend should think before speaking. Especially in an area with heightened security. saying "bomb" at an airport in any context is just stupid.
@ the wire - the most racist people are blacks. keep on blaming others for your situation. dcn
So it took till 7:49 AM to get a stupid comment like "the wire" posted after reading this article. Can't anything be devoid of politics? LRP/HHI
