A man was fatally shot near Cavanaugh's River Deck in Penn's Landing after a fight inside the club Sunday night, according to police.

About 11:45 p.m., police responded to reports of a fight outside the busy club, on the 400 block of North Christopher Columbus Boulevard, and heard gunshots from the unit block of nearby Callowhill Street.

When the officers ran to Callowhill, police said, a man on a motorcycle approached and pointed to three men running from the scene.

" 'They just shot my boy,' " the motorcyclist told the officers, police said.

After a short chase on foot, three men were taken into custody and brought to the Homicide Unit for questioning, police said. Their identities had not been released as of 3 p.m. Monday.

The victim, whose identity was not released pending family notification, was shot once in the head and several times in his torso. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:07 a.m. Monday.

According to posts on social media, the club was hosting an "Island Vibes" party to celebrate Liberian independence Sunday night. Messages left for a club owner or manager were not returned Monday.

One woman posted on Facebook: "This ruined my night last night I wanted to dance the night away."

Another Facebook user said the club was "packed" Sunday night. She added that "all I know is the dude next to me punched somebody so hard they flew on that floor."

Police said the victim may have been involved in a fight inside Cavanaugh's before the shooting.
