Man dies after double shooting in Fairhill

A shooting on Darien Street near Somerset in Fairhill Tuesday evening left one man dead and another hospitalized, police said.

Around 5:10 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot several times in his torso and a second man — who is also 29 years old — was shot in his left arm and stomach.

The victim who was wounded in his torso was taken to Temple University Hospital by a private vehicle, and was pronounced dead at 5:26 p.m.

The living victim ran inside a house on the block after he was shot. Medics took the man to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition as of 7 p.m. Chief Inspector Scott Small said he was being interviewed at the hospital by homicide detectives to determine what led up to the shooting, and whether he was involved.

Cops found 16 shell casings on the scene, which were fired from several different weapons and damaged a car that was parked on the street.

Three witnesses were taken from the scene to speak with homicide detectives immediately after the shooting. A description of the suspect or the motive was not immediately available.

The house that the victim ran inside of is being held as a crime scene, Small said. Cops were preparing a search warrant Tuesday evening to determine whether the man hid a gun inside the house before medics arrived.
