Man dies after broad-daylight shooting in Elmwood

A man died Wednesday afternoon after he was shot in Southwest Philadelphia's Elmwood neighborhood around 11:30 a.m.

Police said the man was at 63rd Street and Grays Avenue at 11:27 a.m. when someone shot him at least twice -- once in the left leg and once in the lower back. Officers rushed him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he clung to life for nearly an hour before he was pronounced dead at 12:20 p.m.

The man remained unidentified later Wednesday afternoon, and police were unsure of his age. Investigators have not yet determined what motivated the shooting or identified any suspects.
