Man dies after accidental shooting in Wynnefield

Police are investigating what appears to be an accidental fatal shooting in Wynnefield.

Around 7:35 p.m., two friends were inside an apartment on 51st Street near Lebanon Avenue when a gun discharged once and wounded a man in his shoulder.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and was pronounced dead about an hour later, said Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division.

The bullet may have traveled through the man’s shoulder and into his chest, police said.

Police were still on the scene at 9 p.m., and were unsure of the victim’s age or what led up to the gun being fired.
