A 33-year-old man was clinging to life Tuesday night after he was shot three times on a Frankford street, police said.

The victim's glasses, keys and a small pool of blood marked the spot on Pear Street near Mulberry, where a gunman opened fire on him shortly after 8 o'clock, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. Police found two casings from a 9mm handgun and one bullet at the scene.

Small said the man was shot in his mouth, chest and buttocks, and his brother drove him to Aria Health's Frankford hospital, where he was in critical condition. He was later transferred to Aria Health's Torresdale hospital, but officials are unsure if he'll survive.

Nobody witnessed the incident, Small said, and police were still working to determine what sparked the gunfire late Tuesday night. He said the man's brother told investigators he didn't know what happened, though the victim had been conscious after he was shot.

Police continued to investigate the shooting Tuesday night.
