Man arrested in violent Pennsport robbery

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a violent robbery at a Pennsport laundromat, police said.

The attack happened Wednesday at about 10 a.m. inside Kin Laundromat, on Moyamensing Avenue near Moore Street. A 58-year-old laundromat employee told police two males entered the business and one of them stated, "Give me the money" before striking him in the head twice with what he believed to be a hammer. The second male took $700 from a filing cabinet drawer and the two fled on foot.

The victim was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and treated for cuts to the head.

Based on surveillance, police identified one of the suspects as Zafiya Stringfield, 25, of Watkins Street near 4th, about three blocks from the laundromat. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault, robbery and related offenses. The second suspect remains on the loose.
