Man arrested in Olney gun slaying

Police have charged a Crescentville man with murder in last month's gun slaying of a North Philadelphia teen.

Rodney Blackshear, 20, of Rosalie Street near Rising Sun Avenue, was arrested yesterday and jailed without bail in the death of Akwaski Landers, 17, who lived about two block away from his alleged killer on Vankirk Street near Rising Sun Avenue, said Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman. Blackshear allegedly shot Landers in the abdomen on July 17 on 2nd Street near Champlost Avenue in Olney, Russell said. Landers died 10 days later at Albert Einstein Medical Center, she added.

The motive is listed as unknown. Blackshear faces an Aug. 21 preliminary hearing.
