A 1-year-old boy narrowly missed being shot when bullets tore down a West Philadelphia street late Wednesday night, wounding a woman and a man who were standing near him, police said.
Cops said a group of three women, one of whom was holding the baby, and a man were standing on the corner of 61st Street and Osage Avenue talking around 10 p.m. Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division said two men passed by the group and got about 15 feet away when they turned around and one of them yelled, "Don't move," and opened fire on them.
A 19-year-old woman was wounded once in her hand and a 22-year-old man was hit in the stomach, Walker said. Both were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she was listed in stable condition and he remained in critical around midnight.
Walker said the baby suffered bumps and bruises when the sister of the woman who was shot, who was holding him at the time, dove to the ground with him to avoid the gunfire. The child and the other two women were OK, police said.
The baby's stoller and a pair of flip flops one of the women lost in the chaos marked the scene as cops investigated late Wednesday night.
Police were looking for two men in their 20s -- one wearing a white T-shirt and jeans and the other wearing a black shirt -- in connection with the shooting. They were last seen running east on Osage Avenue.
No arrests had been made as of early Thursday morning.
