Man, 90, assaulted in home invasion robbery

A robbery suspect forced his way into a house on Levick Street near Revere in Mayfair and assaulted a 90-year-old man before stealing his wallet and running off Thursday morning, police said.

The home invasion robbery unfolded around 11:35 a.m. — around the corner from the 15th Police District building on Harbison Avenue near Levick Street.

The suspect used a box to assault the elderly man, police said. He snatched the victim's brown wallet, which contained about $200 in cash and fled on foot in an unknown direction, said Officer Tanya Little, a police department spokeswoman.

Medics took the man to Nazareth Hospital. He suffered a cut to his lip and was treated and released.

The man's neighbors said he was spending time with his daughter Thursday afternoon and will celebrate his 91st birthday on Friday.

George Ochlak was disgusted that anyone would rob his elderly neighbor in broad daylight inside a house that he's owned for 62 years.

"You're not safe anywhere anymore," Ochlak said, "No matter where the hell you go."

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man who is between 20 and 30 years old. Police said he is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds. He was wearing a gray jacket and dark pants.
