Man, 27, gunned down on North Philly basketball court

A quiet Sunday afternoon was shattered by the sound of gunfire on a North Philadelphia basketball court, leaving one man dead, police said.

A quiet Sunday afternoon was shattered by the sound of gunfire on a North Philadelphia basketball court, leaving one man dead, police said.

The shooting happened shortly after 2 p.m. on 8th Street, between Brown and Poplar streets, across from the Philadelphia Police Forensic Science Building. Police said the 27-year-old victim was shot twice in the chest, then walked to 8th and Poplar, where he collapsed.

The victim was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital where he was declared dead. His name has not been released.

Police did not have any information on a suspect.
