Man, 23, killed in Cobbs Creek double shooting

Police are investigating a double shooting in Cobbs Creek that left a 23-year-old man dead and a 21-year-old man hospitalized in stable condition Wednesday afternoon.

Shots were fired on Cobbs Creek Parkway near Catharine Street around 3 p.m., police said. The deceased victim was shot nine times and was wounded in his chest and arms, said Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division. The victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was pronounced dead at 3:33 p.m.

The 21-year-old victim was wounded once in his right arm and was taken to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby by a private vehicle, police said. He was listed in stable condition as of 4 p.m

The man told police that he was walking down the street when the deceased victim began shooting at him from inside his car. However, police believe the two shooting victims were both driving on the parkway and were firing at each other from both sides of the street.

Cops found 9 millimeter and .45-caliber shell casings on the scene and recovered a .45-caliber handgun in the car the deceased victim was riding in.

There were no witnesses, Walker said, and police were interviewing the 21-year-old victim at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital Wednesday afternoon.
