Man, 21, fatally shot in West Philadelphia

Police responding to calls about gunshots on Pentridge Street near 54th Thursday around 12:10 p.m. found a 21-year-old man unconscious on the steps of a building with gunshot wounds to the left side of his chest and stomach.

Police took the man to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m., said Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division.

On the scene, police recoverd two shell casings and the victim's cell phone. Because of the severity of the man's injuries, police were unable to interview the victim before he died.

There were no witnesses. A description of the suspect and information on the shooter's motive was not immediately available.

No arrests were made.
