Late-night recap: 2 shot within half-hour

Two men were shot within 30 minutes last night, in separate incidents that bear eerie similarities.

In the first, a 40-year-old man was shot once in each calf about 6:30 p.m. on 51st Street near Kingsessing Avenue in Kingsessing, according to police.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said the man was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and is in stable condition.

The shooting, according to Small, stemmed from an argument between the victim and a friend of his girlfriend.

"The guy knows who shot him; it won't be too hard for detectives to solve this one," Small said.

The second shooting took place roughly a half-hour later, according to Small.

In that incident, a 21-year-old man was shot once in the right leg on the corner of Amber and Auburn streets in Kensington.

Like the first shooting, the victim knew the alleged shooter, telling police he was a neighborhood friend. The victim, who was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition, won't provide the motive for the shooting.

Apparently, he wasn't a very close friend.
