Holmesburg man charged in murder sparked by argument

Police identified the man slain Sunday in Holmesburg as Rasheed Shannon of East Torresdale.

Shannon, 25, of Fitler Street near 49th, was shot in the face at 1:40 p.m. Sunday on Vista Street near Edmund, police said. He was taken to Aria Health's Torresdale hospital, where he died at 4 p.m. Monday.

Police arrested Claude Thomas, 27, who lived on the same block where the shooting occurred, and charged him with murder and related offenses. He faces a Feb. 26 preliminary hearing. The motive was listed as argument, but a police spokeswoman said she could not provide details.

Both men are repeat offenders with past arrests for drugs and other offenses, according to court records.
