Gunman shot by police

A man is in critical condition after being shot at least twice by police Monday night in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia.

Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said officers from the 25th District were on patrol near a Hess Gas Station at 5th Street and Lehigh Avenue when they saw a man firing several shots at another man.

"When the officers pulled up to the Hess parking lot, the man was still firing shots at the other man," Small said.

Police ordered the man to drop his weapon, a stainless steel revolver, and an officer shot the man when he did not comply.

Small said the man was shot at least twice in the torso and was rushed by medics to Temple University Hospital.

The suspect has not yet been identified by police, and Small said the man's intended target was not wounded.

The intended victim was being interviewed by police early Tuesday morning.
