Girl, 15, wounded in Point Breeze shooting

This post has been updated.

The mother of a 15-year-old girl who was critically wounded in a shooting in Point Breeze was being questioned Monday night by police in the South Detective Division.

Chief Inspector Scott Small gave this account:

Cops said a woman called 9-1-1 Monday afternoon reporting that her daughter suffered an injury to her face. Medics took the girl to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and discovered that a bullet was lodged in her left cheek.

Police returned to the unidentified woman's apartment around 5p.m. on 19th Street near Mountain looking for evidence of a shooting and found blood stains inside the first-floor living room of the apartment.

"Somebody knows more than we were told initially," Small said, adding that the teenage victim provided police with very little information concerning the circumstances that led to the shooting.

Cops were unsure of who was inside of the apartment at the time of the shooting. Police from the 17th district cordoned off the woman's apartment as a crime scene while officials from the South Detective Division awaited a warrant to search it Monday night.
