Four wounded when gunmen spray crowd in Ogontz park

POSTED: Sunday, June 24, 2012, 9:41 PM

Four people were hospitalized with non-life threatening gunshot wounds Sunday night after police say two gunmen sprayed a crowded basketball court and picnic area with bullets.

Cops said about 100 people were playing basketball, watching the game and having a cookout in Kemble Park, at Ogontz and Olney avenues, when two men opened fire on the crowd from behind trees.

A 20-year-old woman was hit once in her left thigh, a man the same age was hit in his right shin, a 21-year-old man was also hit in his right shin and a 22-year-old man was hit in his anke, police said. All victims were taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center and listed in stable condition later Sunday night.

An off-duty police officer witnessed the shooting, investigators said. He was being interviewed at the Northwest Detective Division Sunday night. Police said the shooters were described as two young black men between the ages of 18 and 21, one wearing a black shirt and the other wearing a gray shirt. They took off after the shooting, and no arrests were made.

Blood marked the scene on the basketball court, according to investigators. No surveillance cameras were found in the area.

Cops continued to investigate the shooting around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Want to end the shootings? Let more law-abiding citizens get their own licensed guns. With nobody to shoot back, the hoodlums will go on with their mayhem. Seems like random shootings is becoming this year what flash mobs were last year.

Yeah, I'm sure there were no other guns on hand in the park that day. I'm sure of that.

Wait, there may have been 1 or 2. Maybe ten or twenty.

Actually, thinking it through, there were probably more guns than people at the park that day.

Make Philly a police stste with authority to search anyone anywhere; or let more citizens arm themselves. You can triple the police force but that will not be enough. Great sale on guns within the city. It is our constitutional right to arm ourselves.
