Former detective gets 4 years in federal lockup for running 'roid ring

A former Philadelphia Police detective on Monday was sentenced to four years in federal prison for running a steroid-distribution ring in Philadelphia and across the U.S.

Keith Gidelson, 36, who pleaded guilty to charges that he distributed anabolic steroids and human growth hormone in October, will also serve three years of supervised release following his sentence and pay a $25,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Gidelson’s wife, Kirsten, was sentenced to three years of probation with the first year on house arrest and a $100 fine for her participation in the scheme, authorities said.

Gildelson, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, obtained shipments of steroids and HGH monthly from distributors in Europe and China, then stored the steroids in the couple’s home in Philadelphia before selling them to customers locally and customers around the country that he met via online chat rooms.
