First a shooting, then a suicide in N. Philly

A 28-year-old committed suicide after he shot and seriously wounded a North Philly resident earlier today.

A 28-year-old man committed suicide after he shot and seriously wounded a North Philly resident earlier today. Investigators said the daytime drama began shortly after 3:30 p.m., when the shotgun-toting suspect barged into a property on Bellevue Street near 20th and started firing at a 24-year-old man who was asleep in his bed.

The younger man was wounded once in the left leg as he attempted to flee. Detectives said the victim, whose name wasn't released, was in surgery tonight at Temple University Hospital and might lose his leg. The gunman, who also wasn't identified, turned the gun on himself just as police arrived at the scene. SWAT team members found the triggerman dead inside when they entered the house at about 5:20 p.m. The motive for the shooting was unclear, detectives said.
