A woman has been pulled out of the Schuylkill River after plunging her car into the water intentionally, police said.

Police received the call at 5:40 p.m. for a report of a person in the water on Kelly Drive near Fountain Green Drive.

Rescuers were able to retrieve the woman, who police said appears to be in her 30s. Authorities believe she was the lone occupant in the car, but are conducting a secondary search to make sure.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Sullivan said the woman drove into the river intentionally. She was alert and conscious and taken to a nearby hospital, he said.

The investigation is ongoing.
