Don't tase me, bro

Don't tase me, bro

Coming to a violent confrontation near you: Philly cops with tasers.

Police officials said earlier tonight that the 160 cops who make up the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) will now carry tasers while on-duty. Taster training will start on Monday at the Police Academy in Northeast Philadelphia.

Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey called the addition of the less-than-lethal weapons a "truly historic moment" for the department. The weapons are especially important for members of the CIT, which was formed over a year ago to help reduce the number of violent encounters between cops and citizens, especially those that are mentally unstable.

Keep your eye on this space for more about the tasers next week.
