Cops nab alleged 'Monday Mugger'

Could this be the end for one of the so-called Monday Muggers?

Could this be the end for one of the so-called Monday Muggers?

Earlier this week, police released surveillance footage of a group of thugs -- as many as four, total -- who have been robbing women in Center City on a nearly weekly basis for the last month. For reasons that are thus far unclear, the crooks seemed to favor preying on women on Mondays.

The bottom dropped out for one of the alleged muggers on -- yep -- Monday morning. Police said Michael Crump and another man stole a woman's purse about 11 a.m. at 6th and Venango streets. The purse snatch victim followed the assailants and called 9-1-1. Crump, 48, was arrested near 8th and Ontario streets and charged with theft and conspiracy, police said. His cohort fled and is still on the loose.

Crump, of Gratz Street near York, has also been charged with robbing a 93-year-old woman at a Center City high-rise on Aug. 16, and robbing a 29-year-old woman who was pushing an infant in a stroller on Chestnut Street near 15th on July 19, police said.
