Cops: Prisoner escapes from CFCF this morning

Kevin Turner's bail was reduced by $95,000 last week but this morning, instead of paying up, he broke out, according to police and court records.

Kevin Turner's bail was reduced by $95,000 last week but this morning, instead of paying up, he broke out, according to police and court records.

Turner, 22, who was being held in prison on drug and burglary charges, escaped from the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on State Road this morning, police said. He was present when a headcount was conducted at 3:45 a.m. but not when one was done at 8:30 a.m., police said.

Robert Eskind, prison spokesman, said prison officials realized the headcount was off at 8:30 a.m. and by 11 a.m. they had determined it was Turner who was missing.

His method of escape is unknown, police said.

Eskind said Turner was assigned to work the kitchen on the 1 to 9 p.m. shift. He said prison officials haven't completely ruled out that Turner may not have escaped, but may instead be hiding somewhere in the prison, something that happened once before, several years ago.

On Wednesday, Turner's bail was reduced from 10 percent of $100,000 to 10 percent of $5,000, according to court records. Turner has a lengthy arrest record that dates back to 2007 and includes everything from drug and gun charges to disorderly conduct.

Turner's last known address was on Lehigh Avenue near Front Street. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the police department's tip line at 215-686-8477.
