Cops: Man shot for eating cake

POSTED: Monday, January 17, 2011, 11:37 AM

One Philadelphia man did not want his friend to have his cake and eat it too today.

Two friends were in a car on 2nd Street near Callowhill around 2:40 a.m., when the passenger in the vehicle began eating cake the driver had in his car, according to police. This enraged the driver and the two began arguing, a Central Detectives investigator said.

They got out of the vehile and the driver shot his friend once in the chest - all over some cake, according to the investigator.

"They weren't supposed to be sharing" he said. "One was eating the other's food, they got into an argument and 'Bang! Bang!'"

The investigator denied a conflicting report that french fries were at the center of the argument. While food was the catalyst, he said, it was over baked goods, not fried.

Police said the 31-year-old victim was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The driver fled in his silver vehicle and remains on the lam, police said.

Philly.com's publishers probably get a kick out of all of you. First, they selectively decide what they want to let the Idiot's in this town post on. When they decide that things are seemingly not sensitive they probably sit back and have a laugh. All of the MLK day references point to the same ignorant assumption made that them, that the perpetrators are black. On so on you go, playing god assigning intrinsic value to peoples (and animals) lives on the basis of race, color, creed, social status, and your own ignorant projections. The remarks are insensitive and inhumane. Have a nice holiday Philly - you deserve your rep.

In your indignation at what you see as "racism", you should also consider that the reality, the statistics and even a cursory look at who populates our penal institutions bears out what you try to deny. You can bury your head in the sand, but the reality is what it is. 13% of the US population commits 80% of the crime. If I could get such certain odds in Vegas by betting on "black", I'd never have to work again. Don't be blind. You simply look like the fool.

Wow, i see the racist are back to their usual rants. Well, here's one, at least the shooter only shot one person, not 22 (as in AZ) including a nine yr old; nor did the shooter attack a classroom full of children; nor did the shooter murder the last 7 police officers to die in the line of duty in the State of PA; nor did the shooter wear a priest collar as he was touching little boys. We can go on folk...

I hate to burst your nice little racist bubble, all of you making stupid MLK day comments, but there are a lot of black and white people in this country who consider the day important and who have nothing to do with cake, guns, or the area around 2nd & Callowhill. What you reveal about yourselves is that you are bitter people just waiting for a chance to make a slighting comment about African-Americans -- waiting so anxiously that you don't stop to notice that the race of these two guys isn't given in the published report.
