Cops: Death of 3-year-old in Roxborough is a homicide

POSTED: Sunday, January 16, 2011, 6:54 PM

Update: The child's mother's boyfriend, Joseph Zysk, 27, has been charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter and related offenses for the death of the 3-year-old boy, Jason Larkin, police said. The cause of his death was multiple blunt force trauma to the body and a lacerated liver, according to police.

The death of a 3-year-old child this weekend in Roxborough has been declared a homicide, police said, and while investigators said that someone was in custody for the death, they remained tight-lipped about who they have charged.

The investigation into the 3-year-old boy’s death early Saturday morning was being handled by the Special Victims Unit until it was taken over today by homicide investigators, police said.

The toddler was discovered unresponsive by his mother’s boyfriend at 3 a.m. Saturday in his bedroom inside of a home on Houghton Street near Jamestown, near Roxborough Memorial Hospital, police said. The boy was taken to that hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:11 a.m. His identity and the cause of his death have not yet been released.

Hisbro- Your comment is both hypocritical and motivated by hate. You are everything that is wrong with this city. You clearly have no idea how the Philadelphia Homicide Division works nor who is on it. If you do not know what you are talking about then please don't speak.

Hibro, do you have first hand knowledge of this? Philadelphia has one of the highest murder rates in the county. Do you think these guys/gals are busy? In what other job do you get to see first hand the horror of man's inhumanity to man, comfort a bereaved family, deal on a daily basis with the real scum of the earth child killers, drug gang murderers and cop killers. Try that for a week and then talk about them. Its been 48 hours, the hospital called the PPD, they brought in the SVU who no doubt had the coroner's office involved who declared the death a homicide. Its not the cop's who determine that you stupid MF.
It could have been an accident, which is why no details were released.

Funny nothing is being said about the mom or her boyfriend in racial terms or derogatory fueled innuendos, yet if this were a minority couple or family, we would have had extended pages from bloggers spewing venom from their mouths. What a biased world!

Let me offer this brief rule of thumb - in the case of infant/child homicide, 95% of the time the perpetraitor is the mother's boyfriend. This is because just like a lion who deposes the pride alpha male first order of business is to kill the offspring of his predecessor, this scum who killed this child had no genetic stake in this poor kid. As for the Philadelphia Police, thank God we have them to deal with these bums.

Statistics aside, you have no idea what happened here. "...the this scum who killed this child...?" What happened to innocent until proven guilty, or is that just an insignificant detail for you? How 'bout we execute the guy and THEN have the trial, so you can feel about what happened here? Thank God for the Philly Police, yeah, but don't pretend that they're anywhere near perfect. Do you just skip over the dozens, hundreds of stories about Philly Police corruption in this very newspaper? Stifle your bloodthirsty self and let the wheels of justice turn.
