Cops bust $1.5 million marijuana grow operation in Frankford
Cops hauled 77 hydroponic pot plants out of an old factory building in Frankford Wednesday night in a more than $1.5 million drug bust.
Police said the entire third floor of the building, set back down a gritty driveway off Unity Street near Penn, housed the grow operation. When Narcotics Field Unit cops busted it Wednesday night, police said, they found the plants plus a few hundred pills.
Police sources said the marijuana seized has a high THC content and is valued on the street around $1,400 per quarter-pound, or $350 an ounce. Average weed, they said, usually runs between $900 and $1,200 per quarter-pound.
Three men and a woman were arrested in connection with the bust, police said. They were awaiting charges late Wednesday night.
while hundreds of murders go unsolved... keep up the good work. price estimate is definitely high by the way Chauncee- Drug growers are never related to murders in Philly.
Fine if you want to legalize it so it isn't criminals involved in violence ruling the drug trade but until that happens there's a high correlation between violence and drug growing and distribution. stevestevestevesteve

Is this the old frankford unity warehouse? I thought one of the dollar stores was using it. shambo
The war on drugs causes Drug dealers and "drug lords" to enjoy huge profits, out of line with the quality of goods they produce, and without real regulation to keep them behaving in a responsible manner.
Politicians get big campaign contributions from people who have made a fortune from the War On Drugs. donjuango
Or we could've legalized it, taxed it, and made money off of it. But instead we the taxpayers now have to pay for the cops and the for years that the "criminals" will spend in prison. skirrellyjones
Most everyone now realizes that government officials benefit tremendously from the drug war, just as drug lords and drug gangs do. There is the ever-burgeoning business of asset forfeiture, including against innocent people, which is a way that the state helps fills its coffers without going through the legislative process of raising taxes. There are the bribes of public officials. And there are simply the jobs that the drug war produces — drug war agents, prosecutors, judges, clerks, and so forth. Thus, it isn’t surprising that among the people who still favor the drug war, government officials and drug lords are at the top of the list. Both groups would be put out of work immediately with drug legalization. donjuango
A war on drugs will never be won.

@TKA @@@ jones - - - -People please think!!!! DRUGS are a GATEWAY to CRIME !!!! Drug users rob and steal to get money to BUY MORE DRUGS . . . !!! If you legalized it you then created a BLACK MARKET, which is a GATEWAY to more CRIME ! Theres no winning in this situation other then to keep educating the youth of america and hope for the best, and lets not forget enforcing the laws. Foxchase
I was curious to what people had to say about this article. One comment I have to make is that the main person who lived in this warehouse is a father who worked and had no reason except for greed to be growing this, who is now in jail and his children will get no child support. Do you know how hard it is to tell your teenager that your dad is in jail and what for. For me again, no child support. This person has a long record so it will probably be for awhile. I'm sure while he was being greedy he wasn't thinking of his children. Something like this goes way beyond whether pot should be legal or not. It's not legal now so his children are paying for the crime. Just wanted to vent. nottoohappy
