A dozen people were enjoying a karaoke party in the rec room of a Southwest Philly house Sunday afternoon when a group of not-so-smart gun-wielding robbers burst in and stole their cash, cops said.
But the gunmen weren’t able to ruin all the fun at the house, on Grovers Avenue near 68th Street. In fact, they put on quite a show for cops and their alleged victims after one woman, whom they left in the basement while marching some of the partygoers upstairs to empty their pockets (no word on whose bright idea that was), outsmarted them by calling 9-1-1 while none of the four unsuspecting gunmen was watching.
Cops arrived at the house within minutes, and the robbers peered out a second-floor window at the fate that awaited them below, said Lt. John Walker of the Southwest Detective Division. Busted!
One robber dropped his gun in the house and attempted to run out the front door – right into the cuffs of cops waiting to collar him on the street. Two of the other thugs, in a bold yet impressively stupid attempt to evade police, jumped out a rear second-floor window, Walker said, landed on one of the victim’s cars and ditched their guns in a trashcan – all while cops watched. Police, of course, caught up with those two and arrested them on the spot.
“It was a pretty daring act,” Walker said. “They tried their best, but unfortunately [for them], the good guys won this battle.”
One of the four men got lucky and was able to escape out the back door and elude police before they surrounded the house, Walker said.
Investigators found the guns of all three of the men they arrested and recovered stolen cash from each of them. In what might be the only saving grace for these guys, the young criminals may have been a little inexperienced: Walker said two are 18 and the other is 19.
Cops Sunday night were still interviewing witnesses, working to determine how much cash was stolen and looking for the fourth gunman, who managed to escape while his compadres got pinched.
The robber on the lam is described by police as a black man who’s 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 8 and has a dark complexion and short hair. He wore a blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

- To all sane whites and civil minded blacks, take note. It is never too late to take a stand against another life being wiped out. Some elements in America constantly argue that the black community needs to care more, work harder in school, and improve the local economy. Some of the same critics are now upset that some blacks are beginning to do just that. Why? Sure, blacks should organize and respond to crimes committed by other blacks as well. I can understand that point, but at least they are starting somewhere but why does that trigger vocalized hate? This case sparked outrage because the young kid had a right to life, self defense, and justice, but so far the talk is only about Zimmerman's right to self defense while seeking confrontation against police orders. In short, let these racists fuel your energy to realize why you must do more. Let the hate they spew confirm that they indeed exist and that this is the reason we must guard against them. Stand firm but fair everywhere in Philly and let all who seek to crush black life or tarnish the image of the African American, be he black or white know that we are on their case. The police did not "order" Zimmerman to do anything. They said, and I quote: "We do not need you to do that" referring to him following Trevon. That is not ordering him to stop. It is telling him that they do not need him to do that, that they are going to handle it. Stop lying about the facts. The distortion of the facts is exactly why there is the huge indifference to Trevon's death that there is: Everywhere one looks, someone is "spinning" this story to be something that it is not, as you are doing. NBC reported that Zimmerman said something to the effect that "There is a guy in a hoodie looking like he is on drugs and he is BLACK!!!" when in reality Zimmerman never mentioned Trevon's race until AFTER the dispatcher asked Zimmerman "Is the suspect White, Hispanic or Black?". That's a BIG difference from what the press reported, from calling someone "Suspicious, on drugs and Black". Trevon attacked Zimmerman. Witnesses confirm this and the medical reports from the EMTs describe a broken nose, contusions, and heavy bleeding, including on the rear of Zimmerman's head. The police also confirmed this in their reports. Yet you and the press seem hell-bent on ignoring this. After the EMTs did clean him up, there is a video that everyone is all excited about that shows a "Clean" Zimmerman with no visible blood. DUH. He had just been cleaned UP. - The Philadelphia Police Department and all news stations should put out alerts that home invasions are beginning to be on the rise. I guess with people carrying less cash due to credit cards, thugs are beginning to break into people homes. Be safe Philadelphia!!!— aswj
