Police are investigating the rapes of two women in separate incidents over the weekend.
In the first, cops said a 48-year-old woman was approached by two masked men on Irving Street near 50th in West Philadelphia around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The men grabbed her, put her in a vehicle, took her to an unknown location and sexually assaulted her there before dropping her back off, police said.
The only description available of those attackers, police said, was that one was a thin black man and the other was a heavyset black man with a beard. Both wore ski masks during the attack.
In the second attack, police said a 38-year-old woman was approached on Jeanes Street near Ferndale in Bustleton shortly after midnight Sunday morning. The man, whom she did not know, sexually assaulted her there and stole her purse, police said.
Cops described that attacker as a man of unknown race who was about 5 feet 10 inches tall and had a Spanish accent. He wore dark jeans and a dark hooded sweatshirt at the time of the assault.
Anyone with information on either attack should call the Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251, the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP (773847). Tipsters may remain anonymous.
