Cops: Woman hid pounds of coke in her shoes at PHL

Customs and Border Protection officers at Philadelphia International Airport were hot on the heels of a New Jersey woman who tried to smuggle 4 pounds of cocaine from Jamaica to Philadelphia in her shoes yesterday.

There's no indication whether Iveliza Tuhanna Perez, 25, was flying that plane high on cocaine but police say the passenger packed three pairs of women's shoes with cocaine hidden in the heels before boarding her flight.

Perez, of Camden, made it on the flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica, with no problem, but after landing in Philadelphia around 4:30 p.m., she was referred to a "routine" secondary search by Customs and Border Protection officers, according to a release from the Department of Homeland Security.

During a subsequent examination of her bags, officers found that three pairs of cork-wedge shoes Perez had with her were "unusually heavy," the release said.

When officers x-rayed and opened up the shoes, they discovered a total of 4 pounds and 7 ounces of cocaine hidden in the six shoes, police said. That amount of cocaine totals around $140,000 and makes the shoes almost as expensive as a pair of Louboutins.

Perez was charged with possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and related offenses.
